Overview

Abu al-Fath al-Fadl ibn Ja'far ibn al-Furat, the last vizier of al-Muqtadir. 2

The day al-Muqtadir was killed

He was the vizier of al-Muqtadir on the day he was killed at the Gate of al-Shamasiyya in 320 AH. 2

Al-Mas'udi relates that the vizier took the astrological reading at the hour the caliph rode out to the battle. When he told him that the time was the zenith, al-Muqtadir frowned and wanted not to go out. 2

His life before the vizierate and after the caliph's death needs an additional source.

Al-Daraqutni

'Ali b. 'Umar Abu'l-Hasan al-Daraqutni (306–385), Baghdad's hafiz, singular of his age: the science of transmitted reports, narrators' names and the hidden defects of hadith ended with him; al-Hakim said al-Daraqutni never saw his own like. As a youth at Isma'il al-Saffar's circle he was rebuked for copying while listening — and recited back eighteen dictated hadiths, isnads and texts in order. The Kitab al-'Ilal current under his name was taken down by al-Barqani from his dictation at Abu Mansur b. Hamdan's gatherings. He died Tuesday 7 Dhu'l-Qa'da 385, buried at Maqbarat Ma'ruf.
