Overview

Muhammad ibn Jabir al-Battani, with the kunya Abu Abd Allah. Al-Mas'udi counts him among those who engaged in the sciences of the heavens after the appearance of Islam. 1

Al-Mas'udi says that he was the author of the astronomical table (zij) that was relied on for dating the caliphs from the Hijra to 336 AH, and that the people of the astrological craft observed these times. 2

The museum's data do not record his birth or death, which need an additional source.
