Overview

Al-A'war ibn Qutba is mentioned by al-Mas'udi in "Muruj al-Dhahab" in the context of the day of Aghwath in the battles of al-Qadisiyya. On that day Shahriyar of Sistan fought a single combat, and each killed the other. 2

After the duel

Al-A'war was badly wounded and was carried from the battle and rested under the one palm tree between the battlefield and the fort of al-Udhayb. He said a verse there, which al-Mas'udi attributes to him. 2

His lineage and life outside this report need an additional source; they are not yet recorded.
