Roles are dated and sourced; the museum describes the act and attributes the judgement.

    Career

Born at Istanbul in 1862, the son of the tobacco merchant Hacı Ahmed Efendi, he was educated at the Mülkiye and the law school, began journalism at Tercümân-ı Hakîkat at twenty-one, and after editorial posts at Sabah, Tarik and Saadet launched İkdam in 1894, editing it until 1928 and using it to champion a purified Turkish. As a publisher he issued Evliya Çelebi's Seyahatnâme and Şemseddin Sâmî's Kamus-ı Türki. 12

    Exile and death

His opposition to the Committee of Union and Progress drove him into exile in France and Switzerland after 1909; he supported the Turkish War of Independence from abroad and returned after the Republic was proclaimed. He died of a heart attack at the Press Congress in Ankara on 27 May 1935 and was buried at Eyüp Cemetery in Istanbul. 12

    Affiliation

His affiliation is recorded as unknown. Neither the English nor the Turkish article makes any statement of his religion, and Wikidata carries no religion value for him; his newspaper's Turkism is an editorial stance, not attestation. Nothing in his entry is read across from Ahmed Cevdet Pasha's separate record. 123
