Summary
Ahmed Abdussalam is a preacher whose recorded lessons are kept by the Assabile archive, which lists him among the speakers of Egypt; it holds only one series by him, the programme 'Osalli Alayh', twenty-two video episodes on invoking blessings on the Prophet, loving him and following him. 1 2 3 No Wikipedia article or Wikidata item about him was found (the Arabic article under this name is about another man, a Tunisian historian), so everything on this page comes from his recordings and is attributed to him. 1
What the recordings show
He presents the programme alone in a formal Arabic mixed with Egyptian colloquial, addresses his viewers, men and women, as 'O Muslim man, O Muslim woman', asks them questions and asks them to say amen to his prayers. 4 5 6 In the second episode he prays for the crew of the channel that broadcasts the programme, and he describes the episodes as short in form and great in meaning. 7 8 His examples include the Egyptian pound, people's rivalry over the size of their flats, and a telephone call from an unknown number. 9 10 11 In the twentieth episode he tells his viewers he loves them for God's sake, with no trade or anything else binding him to them. 12 13
His method in the programme
He builds the programme on a principle he repeats: that testifying to the Prophet's messengerhood entails five practical duties, the first obedience and the last worshipping God only as the Prophet laid down. 14 4 15 He explains words before urging them, saying God is not worshipped with speech one does not understand. 16 17 He cites al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad's Musnad and al-Albani's grading, and of one report he does not vouch for says God knows best whether it is sound. 18 19 20 Stories and word-pictures dominate his style; he often asks the viewer to imagine the scene with him. 21 22 23
