Summary
Ahmad Husni Hatoqay is a Jordanian intelligence officer who has served as Director of the General Intelligence Department (GID) since 1 May 2019, holding the rank of major general and reporting directly to King Abdullah II 1 2. Biographical information about him is limited and his exact date of birth has not been publicly reported 1.
Work
Husni spent about three decades working within the GID before becoming its director, serving as director of its Counterterrorism Bureau and of its Directorate of Foreign Affairs, then as director of intelligence for Amman for about five years and as assistant director for regional affairs, before his appointment as deputy director in 2017 1 2. King Abdullah II appointed him director on 1 May 2019, succeeding Adnan al-Jundi, with a royal letter calling for continued modernisation of the agency 1. During his tenure the GID has been involved in the 2021 crisis involving Prince Hamzah, in operations against cross-border drug smuggling from Syria, and, after the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024, in regional security discussions including an October 2025 meeting in Turkey alongside Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi 1 2. Jordanian press accounts describe him as of Circassian descent, from a family with a background in the kingdom's security services 1. No text read for this record names a faith for Husni himself, so his faith is recorded as unknown 1 2 3.
