Overview

The judge Abu Amr Muhammad ibn Yusuf, judge of Baghdad, who attended the session examining al-Hallaj. 2

The session on al-Hallaj

Ibn al-Athir relates that the vizier Hamid ibn al-Abbas brought him, with the judge Abu Ja'far ibn al-Bahlul, the notable jurists and witnesses, to ask them for a ruling on al-Hallaj. They said they would not give a ruling unless it was established for them what would require his killing. 2

When al-Hallaj was asked about his book on the pilgrimage to the House, he said he had taken it from "al-Ikhlas" by al-Hasan al-Basri. The judge said, according to the report, that they had heard the book in Mecca and it did not contain that. He then wrote a ruling permitting his blood, and those present at the session wrote after him. 3

His biography and his year of death are not set out here and need an additional source.
