Overview

Abu Ubayda Mammar ibn al-Muthanna, a grammarian, client of the Banu Taym ibn Murra ibn Ka'b ibn Lu'ayy. 2

The Book of the One

Al-Mas'udi says it was said that he wrote "The Book of the One" on the virtues and faults of the Arabs. The book is attributed to the speakers in a dispute at the session of Hisham: al-Abrash al-Kalbi, al-Abbas ibn al-Walid, Khalid ibn Muslima al-Makhzumi and al-Nadr ibn Maryam al-Himyari. Another report says it was written by someone else, from the Shu'ubiyya. 2

Whether the book is his is disputed in the source itself.
