In Ibn al-Jawzi
Ibn al-Jawzi relates that a Qarmatian known as Abu Said appeared in Jumada al-Akhira 287 AH. A group gathered to him, including Bedouins, and his followers multiplied. He killed the people of the villages around him, then went on to al-Qatif. It was said he meant Basra. Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Wathiqi wrote to the sultan, and a wall was built around Basra at a cost estimated at fourteen thousand dinars. Abu Said took control of Hajar and gave its people safe conduct. 3
Notes for researchers
- The two sources differ on the year of his appearance (286 in al-Suyuti and 287 in Ibn al-Jawzi). The difference is not settled here and needs an additional source.
