Overview

Abu Hashim al-Ja'fari, that is Dawud ibn al-Qasim ibn Ishaq ibn Abd Allah ibn Ja'far ibn Abi Talib. There are three fathers between him and Ja'far al-Tayyar. 2

His description

Al-Mas'udi says that he was not known to be more highly born in lineage among the family of Abu Talib and all the Hashimites and Quraysh. He describes him as a man of asceticism, piety and knowledge, of sound mind, and says that his tomb is well known. 2

In the report of Ibn Tahir

He went in to Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Tahir among those who congratulated him on the killing of Yahya ibn Umar. Al-Mas'udi relates that he said to him that he was being congratulated on the killing of a man who, had the Messenger of God been alive, would have been condoled with for him; then he went out reciting verses. 2

Notes for researchers

  • Both the description and the report are from al-Mas'udi; a second source is needed.
