Abu Hanifa al-Dinawari

أبو حنيفة الدينوري

Praised by al-Mas'udi as a man of great standing in knowledge whose book perfected the astronomy of measures and climates — and whom Ibn Qutayba despoiled, transferring his work into his own books as his own, as he did with much of Abu Hanifa's writing 1.

Overview

Abu Hanifa al-Dinawari, a scholar whom al-Mas'udi describes as having a great place in knowledge. 2

In his book

Al-Mas'udi says that in his book he set down the science of the heavens, the measure of the mile and the cubit, and the climes. Al-Mas'udi accuses Ibn Qutayba of having transferred that into his books, attributing it to himself, and says that he did this in many of the books of this Abu Hanifa. This is al-Mas'udi's judgement, not verified by another source. 2
