Overview

Abu Firas al-Hamdani, that is al-Harith ibn Abi al-Ala' Sa'id ibn Hamdan ibn Hamdun, a poet. He was killed in Rabi al-Akhir 361 AH. 2

His killing

He was living in Homs when a rift arose between him and his nephew Abu al-Ma'ali ibn Sayf al-Dawla. Abu al-Ma'ali sought him, and he took refuge in Sadad, a village at the edge of the desert near Homs. 2

What happened at Sadad

Abu al-Ma'ali gathered Bedouins of the Banu Kilab and sent them after him with Qarghuwayh. Qarghuwayh caught up with him at Sadad and attacked him; his companions asked for safe conduct, and he mixed with them. Then Qarghuwayh ordered a slave of his to kill him, and he killed him and took his head. His body was left until Bedouins buried it afterwards. 2
