Overview

Abu Bakr ibn Umar al-Lamtuni, commander of the veiled ones (the Almoravids), who came out of the southern Maghrib bordering the lands of the Sudan. They took the land from the governors of the Zanata, from Tlemcen to the shore of the Atlantic. 2

Leaving the Maghrib

Ibn Khallikan describes him as a simple man of sound nature, who preferred his own country to the Maghrib and did not incline to luxury. He relates that he heard that an old woman in his land had lost a she-camel in a raid, and wept and said that Abu Bakr had lost them by entering the Maghrib. He then left Yusuf ibn Tashfin as his deputy over the Maghrib, and returned to his southern lands. 2

The date of his death is not given here, and needs an additional source.
