Summary
AbdelRahman Murphy is an American Muslim teacher and imam. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a bachelor's degree in the Teaching of English and Religious Studies, and has served as a youth director, Muslim chaplain and assistant imam in a full-time capacity since 2009. 1 His Islamic studies include an Imam Certificate Program in Makkah and graduation from the Qalam Seminary in May 2014, where he read classical texts with AbdulNasir Jangda. 1 His lectures are carried in Muslim Central's podcast series under his name. 1
Roots Community Space
D Magazine profiled him in October 2018 as the Egyptian-American imam directing the Roots Community Space in Irving, Dallas, and teaching at the Qalam Institute in Arlington: he had first run Roots in Knoxville, becoming the first Muslim chaplain at the University of Tennessee, and came to Dallas in 2015 to start the second location, also working as an associate imam at a Southlake mosque. 2
Positions and faith
Read this section as the report of the sources, not as a museum ruling.
No source consulted names a legal school or theological affiliation for him personally. The sources name his teachers and institutions — the Imam Certificate Program in Makkah, the Qalam Seminary under AbdulNasir Jangda, study with Omer Mozaffar — and a teacher's school is not the student's attestation. 1 2 His faith is therefore recorded as unknown.
