Overview
Abd Allah ibn Kathir, kunya Abu Sa'id, also said to be Abu Bakr, one of the readers of Mecca of the second generation. 2
He was a client of Amr ibn Alqama al-Kinani. He was called "al-Darani" because he was a perfumer, and perfumers are called al-Darani in the Hijaz; it is also said "al-Dari al-Lakhmi", because the Banu al-Dari ascribe themselves to Hani ibn Lakhm, among them Tamim al-Dari (may God be pleased with him). It is said that he was of the Persians whom Khosrow sent to Yemen. He died in Mecca in 120 AH and was buried there, and the leadership of the readers passed to him. 2
