His governorship
His killing
Balj ibn Bishr al-Qushayri entered al-Andalus with the army of al-Sham, having escaped the defeat of Kulthum ibn Iyad at the hands of the Berbers. He rose against Abd al-Malik and killed him at the age of seventy. His two sons, Qatan and Umayya, took charge of the affairs of the Fihris. 2
In al-Salabi's account
Al-Salabi says that he took over al-Andalus after the martyrdom of Anbasa ibn Suhaym, that Ubayd Allah ibn al-Habhab then removed him by order of the caliph, that the people of al-Andalus deposed him, and that he was later reinstated and killed after a dispute with Balj ibn Bishr. 3
