Summary
Malik said of a man who bequeathed to another a quarter of a contract slave he owned, and freed a quarter of him. The man died, then the contract slave died leaving property more than what remained owed on him: the heirs of the master and the bequest-holder are given what remains owed to them on the contract slave, and then they divide the surplus. The bequest-holder has a third of what remains after paying the contract, and the heirs of the master have two-thirds, because the contract slave is still a slave while anything of his contract remains owed, and inherits by slavery. 1
