Summary
Malik said of a man who contracts his slave, then the contract slave dies with a remnant of his contract still owed, leaving an umm walad and not enough property to cover what is owed: his umm walad is a slave-woman, because the contract slave was not freed before he died. They are freed by paying what remains, and the umm walad of their father is freed by their freedom. 1
