Summary

Malik said: the practice among us is that if a contract slave pays all his instalments before they are due, that is permitted for him, and his master may not refuse, because by that all conditions of service and travel fall from him. A man's manumission is not complete while a remnant of enslavement remains on him; his sanctity is not complete, his testimony is not admissible, and his inheritance is not due. A master should not stipulate service on him after his manumission. 1
