Summary
He said: as for a man who gives his bare land for a third or a quarter of what comes out of it, that involves uncertainty, because the crop sometimes falls and sometimes rises, and sometimes is entirely lost. So the owner of the land has left a known rent which it would be proper for him to rent his land for, and taken an uncertain matter, not knowing whether it will be completed. This is disliked. One should not hire oneself, one's land, or one's boat except for a known thing that does not change to something else. 1
