Summary

A saying of Malik explaining the Prophet ﷺ's words that none of you should propose on his brother's proposal: in our view, by God knows best, it means a man proposes to a woman, she inclines to him, and they agree on a single known dowry; she has made conditions for herself, and that is the woman he forbade to be proposed to on his brother's proposal. He did not mean that if a man proposes to a woman and she does not agree or incline to him, no one else may propose; that would be a door of corruption opened among people. 1
