Summary

Islam360 is a Karachi app that brings Islamic literature into one platform: the Qur'an can be read by juz' and sura, its recitation heard with or without translation, its tafsir consulted, and the text searched by word, verse, phrase or subject, with the same for hadith; it also has a qibla finder, an Islamic calendar, prayer times, voice commands and an Arabic teacher. 1

Beginnings

It was founded by Zahid Hussain Chhipa. He told Dawn that he once heard a verse but could not recall where it came from and had no easy way to search, so he spent a year typing a Romanised Urdu translation himself and in 2009 made a desktop program called "Search Quran"; as he added hadith it was rebranded Islam360 and moved to an app. 1 2

Content and languages

The app works in Romanised Urdu and in Urdu, Hindi and Arabic in their own scripts, and each word can be tapped for its meaning and etymology. Dawn reported in 2019 that it held translations and tafsir from four major schools of thought in Pakistan, and that its translations were obtained in digital form from the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur'an. The founder said what sets it apart is the range of content and its search and indexing technology, and that it would stay with the Qur'an and hadith. 1

Funding

Every feature is free. In 2019 the founder said Google ads did not cover monthly costs of about $6,500, that a pool of donors filled the gap, and that the venture was internally funded and would stay so; most of its seventeen-member team was technical. 1

Reach

Dawn reported in November 2019 some 6.3 million downloads across Android and iOS in more than 170 countries, with about 150,000 daily active users reportedly. 1 On 7 November 2026 its Google Play page, published by the Islam360 Foundation Trust, showed 10M+ downloads and a rating of 4.6 from about 290,000 reviews. 3 It has an article in the Urdu Wikipedia. 4
