Nafza of the Berbers of the Baranis stock; their homeland the Far Maghreb's Atlas between the coast and the heights — of them al-Randi whom the Ghumara set over themselves in their apostasy when they expelled Salih ibn Mansur, and of them Zaynab bint Ishaq al-Nafzawiyya, famed for beauty and queenship, wife of the Maghreb's rulers — their sway lasting in their mountains into Almoravid days and after.

Overview

Nafza are a Berber tribe, remnants of the Barnas. Ibn Khaldun says that their homelands were the Atlas of the far Maghrib and the land between it and the coast. 1

In Ibn Khaldun

He mentions that among them was al-Randi, whom the Ghumara made their ruler when they apostatised and drove out Salih ibn Mansur before they repented. Among them was Zaynab bint Ishaq al-Nafzawiyya, famous for her beauty and leadership, wife of the emirs of the Maghrib. Their affairs continued in their mountains until the Almoravid state and after it. 1
