What followed in the same year

On 1 July 1890 the Anglo-German Heligoland–Zanzibar Treaty settled the coast: the sultan surrendered sovereignty over the coastal strip between the Umba and Rovuma rivers, and Zanzibar and Pemba passed under British protection. The formal cession of the strip is dated 28 October in the English article and 17 October in the Arabic article. 1 2 3
