Overview
Al-Suyuti says that the Tayy rose against the Iraqi pilgrim caravan in 287 AH to seize it. The amir of the caravan, Abu al-Aghar Khalifa ibn al-Mubarak, fought them for a day and a night; Salih, the amir of the Arabs, was killed, and a great number of his people were taken captive. The pilgrims brought in the captives and the heads on lances. 2
The rising of 289
In 289 AH the Tayy rose under their amir Salih ibn Madrak and plundered the Iraqi caravan. Goods worth a million mithqals were lost to the pilgrims. 2
Abu al-Aghar was the caravan's amir in the first affair. Al-Suyuti's text says "the year seven", and fixing the decade needs an additional source.
