Overview
Al-Suyuti relates that the caliph al-Mahdi received ten hadith transmitters, among them Faraj ibn Fadala and Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim. Al-Mahdi was fond of pigeons. 2
Ghiyath entered and related to him from Abu Hurayra, traced to the Prophet ﷺ: "There is no racing except on hoof or blade", and he added "or wing". Al-Mahdi ordered ten thousand dirhams given to him. 2
When he rose, al-Mahdi said: "I testify that your nape is the nape of a liar, and you only earned this." Then he ordered the pigeons slaughtered. 2
The judgement on the addition here is al-Mahdi's, as al-Suyuti relates it. The date is approximate and derived.
