Death of al-Muktafi Billah

295 AH

In 295 the illness of al-Muktafi Billah grew severe at the start of Dhu'l-Qa'da; he died on a Sunday night and was buried in the house of Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Tahir, and after his death the oath of caliphate was given to al-Muqtadir 1 2. In Ibn al-Jawzi he died in Dhu'l-Qa'da of 295 and al-Muqtadir Billah was given the oath after him 3.

al-Tabari reports that in 295 AH al-Muktafi bi-Llah's illness grew severe at the beginning of Dhu al-Qa'da. He died on the night of Sunday and was buried in the house of Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Tahir. After his death al-Muqtadir was given the oath of the caliphate. 1 2
