Summary
In Jumada al-Ula 420 AH a massacre took place at al-Uqhuwana, a town in Palestine near Tiberias, between Salih ibn Mirdas, amir of Aleppo, and Anushkin al-Dizbiri, commander of the Fatimid caliph al-Zahir's armies 1.
The capture of Aleppo
Salih had taken Aleppo on 13 Dhu al-Hijja 417 AH, wresting it from Murtada al-Dawla ibn al-Jarrah, al-Zahir's governor there. He settled in the city and organised its affairs. Al-Zahir then sent Anushkin against him with a large army 1.
The massacre
When Salih heard the news he went out to meet him. They met at al-Uqhuwana and lined up for battle. The massacre ended with the death of Salih, the first of the Banu Mirdas to rule Aleppo 1.
