al-Jarashi and the Sughd Fortresses

Sa'id ibn Amr al-Jarashi became governor of Khurasan, then marched to Sughd and conquered most of its forts. ¹

When Sa'id came to Khurasan, he ordered his secretary to read out his letter of appointment. The secretary made errors in his reading, and Sa'id told the people that the governor was innocent of that mistake. ¹

Sa'id sent to Sughd calling its people to obedience and to a change of position. He held back from fighting them until his messengers came back saying that they persisted in opposing him. He then advanced on them, and about twelve thousand men, inclined to obedience, broke away from their great chief. ¹

al-Jarashi conquered most of the forts of Sughd and gained a full measure of wealth. ¹
