Summary

Sheikh Omar Abdelkafy holds that Qarunism is a doctrine of life: the rich man who hoards his wealth, whom his riches keep from the Giver, so that he forgets his Lord and does not see the right of the poor in his money. He holds that this case recurs through history. 1 2

The trial of Qarun's wealth

The Sheikh speaks of the trial of wealth that afflicted Qarun, who attributed what he had to his own knowledge, while the Sheikh stresses that wealth belongs to God. 3 4

Defining Qarunism

The Sheikh says that Qarunism is a doctrine of life, the doctrine of the rich man whom wealth deceived until he forgot his Lord. He names it after Qarun wherever the description fits, even when the person is not Qarun himself. 1 He distinguishes it from Pharaonism, and describes its bearer as the hoarding miser who keeps his wealth and is preoccupied with the blessing rather than with giving. 1 5

The grateful and the hoarder

The Sheikh compares the miser who keeps a million for himself with the grateful rich man who sees in his wealth the share of the poor. 5 He holds that the sincere believer sees what the poor are owed, while the one who only claims faith sees only what is taken from him; it is insight, not sight, that sees this. 6

The case repeats

The Sheikh holds that people today look at the billionaires of the world and wish for the same, so the case of Qarun repeats, and human conduct has been one from Adam onward. 2

An example from world politics

The Sheikh compares a superpower of today to Qarun, and describes it as throwing foodstuffs into the sea while people die of hunger in Africa (needs_source: the event is not sourced in the recording, and the Sheikh does not name the state in it). 4
