Seljuk office

The amir majlis, master of audiences or ceremonies, was one of the highest dignitaries of the Seljuks of Asia Minor. 1

Mamluk office

In the Mamluk kingdom the amir majlis had charge of the physicians, oculists and the like. The sources do not explain why this task went with the rank. In the early Mamluk period the rank stood above that of the amir silah, but neither was of great significance; in the Circassian period the amir majlis, inferior to the amir silah, was third among the highest amirs of the kingdom. 1
