إحراق

In jurists' usage ihraq is the fire's removing a thing entirely, or its effect on a thing while it remains, as in branding and roasting. 1 If ground stained with an impurity is dried by sun or fire and its trace is gone, prayer on it is lawful according to the Hanafis. 2 Using the fat of carrion to light a lamp is forbidden according to the Hanbalis and the apparent Hanafi view. 3 Whatever is burnt to ash may not be used for tayammum, by agreement. 4 On praying over a body burnt beyond washing the jurists differ: Ibn Habib, the Hanbalis and some Shafi'is allow it, while the Hanafis, most Shafi'is and the Malikis forbid it. 5 On the property of a concealer of booty: his animals, the clothing he wears, his weapon and his provisions are not burnt, nor is property taken from the booty; what is not burnt stays with its owner. 6

In the lexicon, add is gripping a thing with the teeth and holding it. If a person bites another without right and a wound results, the biter must pay the damages for the wound, assessed as a just award by experts. If one man bites another's hand and the bitten man pulls it free so that the biter's front teeth fall out, most jurists hold that there is no liability, relying on a prophetic judgement in such a case; the Shafi'is limit this to a bitten man who chose the easiest means of release, and the preferred Maliki view requires compensation.
