Ifriqiya

A grown-up reads you the short text; the longer one you read yourself.

Ifriqiya is a region in the Maghreb between Tripoli and Tangier; Abdullah ibn Sa'd raided it in Uthman's caliphate and struck down its patrician at Sbeitla, then Uqba ibn Nafi' opened it and founded its Kairouan.

Ifriqiya, a region in the Maghreb between Tripoli and Tangier. Al-Baladhuri quotes Ibn al-Kalbi that Ifriqis ibn Qays ibn Sayfi al-Himyari ruled it in the Jahiliyya and it was named for him — he brought down its king Jarjir and told the Berbers 'how much you babble', whence 'Barabira'. Abdullah ibn Sa'd raided it in Uthman's caliphate, struck down its patrician at Sbeitla and made peace for three hundred quintals of gold; then Uqba ibn Nafi' opened it and founded its Kairouan. Its events include the first raid on Ifriqiya, the founding of Kairouan, Hassan ibn al-Nu'man's raid against al-Kahina, and the fall of Kulthum ibn Iyad.
