Ammar ibn Yasir

A grown-up reads you the short text; the longer one you read yourself.

Ammar ibn Yasir (may God be pleased with him), a client of Banu Makhzum; he and his parents entered Islam and suffered for it — his mother Sumayya was the first martyr of Islam, and the Prophet ﷺ promised them Paradise amid their trial.

Ammar ibn Yasir (may God be pleased with him), a client of Banu Makhzum; he and his parents entered Islam and suffered for it — his father Yasir died in the ordeal and his mother Sumayya fell as the first martyr of Islam. The polytheists would take them to al-Abtah when the stones blazed and hurt them with its heat; the Prophet ﷺ passed them saying 'patience, family of Yasir, your appointment is Paradise'. They bore down on Ammar with heat, rock and drowning until he gave in to their naming of their gods under compulsion, and God sent down the verse of compulsion in him. It is doubted whether he counted among the eighty-three who migrated in the second migration to Abyssinia.
