Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib
A grown-up reads you the short text; the longer one you read yourself.
Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib, the Prophet ﷺ's father; al-Raheeq calls him the best and dearest of Abd al-Muttalib's sons. His mother was Fatima bint Amr, his uncles Banu Makhzum. He is 'the intended sacrifice': when the sons reached ten and could protect him, Abd al-Muttalib told them his vow; the arrow fell on Abdullah and his father brought him to the Kaaba to offer him, but Quraysh and his Makhzum uncles stopped him. On a diviner's counsel arrows were drawn between him and camels, ten by ten, until a hundred took the lot — hence the Prophet's 'I am the son of the two intended sacrifices', Isma'il and his father. Abd al-Muttalib chose for him Amina bint Wahb of Banu Zuhra, counted the best woman of Quraysh; he married her in Mecca and died at Medina aged twenty-five.
