A grown-up reads you the short text; the longer one you read yourself.
The palace library of Cordoba in al-Andalus was one of the largest libraries of the medieval world, nurtured and expanded by Caliph al-Hakam II. The caliph dispatched agents to Baghdad, Cairo, and Damascus to purchase and copy rare manuscripts, amassing around four hundred thousand volumes across all fields of learning, cataloged in extensive indexes.
